a lovely handmade ceramic necklace that comes from a place of my love for the desert-scapes. i have been spending my winter breaks in the california desert for the last decade or so & i also take a fall & spring trip out to the desert as well; it's one of my most favorite places in the world.  this pretty piece is strung on a soft tan goat skin leather cord & the ceramic pieces are cut, cleaned, painted, glazed & fired twice by me. each piece is handmade by me in my ceramic studio & i use only non-toxic, lead free glazes.

the length of the cord is about 36" but you can adjust to shorten if need be.

inspired by these fantastic quotes about the desert;

“He'd always had a quickening of the heart when he crossed into Arizona and beheld the cactus country. This was as the desert should be, this was the desert of the picture books, with the land unrolled to the farthest distant horizon hills, with saguaro standing sentinel in their strange chessboard pattern, towering supinely above the fans of ocotillo and brushy mesquite.”
Dorothy B. Hughes

“I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams...”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“The fire. The odor of burning juniper is the sweetest fragrance on the face of the earth, in my honest judgment; I doubt if all the smoking censers of Dante's paradise could equal it. One breath of juniper smoke, like the perfume of sagebrush after rain, evokes in magical catalysis, like certain music, the space and light and clarity and piercing strangeness of the American West. Long may it burn.”

Edward Abbey

“The magic of the desert is hard to define. Why does the sight of a landscape of empty sand, rocks, slab and rubble stir the spirits more than a view of lush green fields and woods? Why does the lifeless play of light, colour and distance have such an invigorating, fascinating and elating effect? Perhaps because no limitations are imposed by other forms of life; perhaps because the mind of the beholder is presented with a fata morgana of unlimited freedom. And on such far horizons the outline of a mountain draws the eye like an island in the endless ocean.”
Henno Martin

“I left a piece of my soul that will always rightfully belong in the desert.”
M.B. Dallocchio
